InvadersMustDie: i thought it meant sacred blue. as in the sacred blue color the queen wears, which is why its a curse. taking the sacred color in vain.
One of the French kings (Louis the I-can't-remember-which) tried to ban the old French obscenity sacredieu (Holy God). It's hard to break the habit of saying something when startled (Ever blurt out a swear in the wrong company?), but if you catch yourself you can change what you're saying mid-word ("Ah fff-ork"). And since King Louis had a dog named Bleu...

Randomness - The French are also good for their wine. You should try both at the same time.
Saru: Yes, it means "holy blue", but as Loonie pointed out, people only started saying that b/c "one of the French kings" didn't want people saying "sacre dieu" (holy god) as an epithet any longer...so, people took up saying "sacre bleu" instead (which rhymes, making it easier to switch over - like the kid in A Christmas Story saying "fudge" for "fuck" all the time)...blah blah...can we stop talking about that now and get back to discussing the chick? ;)
