IMAZOMBIE_358: i feel that the majority of the people who censored this stuff are japanese. they tend to censor a lot of porn. especially the weird tentacle movie that uses real people and no digital effects.
Biodeamon: exactly. thank you revenant.
In fact there were no real for censorship back then. nudity was never an issue till the sensitive americans showed up. see exhibit a) our holy grandfather of tentacle porn "the dream of the fisherman's wife" for further proof.
Archanid: Oh, I see. So because of a couple of lawmakers the entire USA is to blame for the censorship? That's totally not a generalization there Biodeamon.
Archanid: You're right Revenant, this is MUCH better.
From the wikipedia page "Censorship in Japan:"
"After the Meiji Restoration in 1868, which marked a major political shift in Japan, the government began heavy censorship of Western ideas, pornography and any political writings critical of the Shogun and government, wanting to control the spread of information."
So censorship began before World War 2.
"After the surrender of Japan in 1945, the Supreme Commander of the Allied Powers abolished all forms of censorship and controls on Freedom of Speech, which was also integrated into Article 21 of the 1947 Constitution of Japan. However, press censorship remained a reality in the post-war era, especially in matters of pornography, and in political matters deemed subversive by the American government during the occupation of Japan."
When the US occupied Japan, they continued it and integrated it into the Constitution.
If one looks a little deeper at the Meji Restoration page:
"There were many causes to the Meiji Restoration. The Japanese knew that they were behind the rest of the world when American Commodore Matthew C. Perry came to Japan to try to issue a treaty that would open up Japanese ports to trade."
So, while you could say that West meeting East eventually caused censorship, the Japanese censored themselves long before the United States occupied Japan.

I hope we all feel a little smarter now.
